High School Student Assaulted by Group of Bullies, Parents Promise It Won’t Happen Again

PHNOM PENH: Between four and five students at a local high school have signed a contract of contrition after photos and video of them assaulting another student surfaced online.

Director of the Phnom Penh Municipal Department of Education, Hem Sinareth, told EAC News that the school had contacted the parents of all students involved and that the aggressors and their parents signed a contract on September 14. He also noted that the students had been split up into different classes.

The principal of Bak Touk High School, Touch Kandal, confirmed that both sides had reached an agreement to end the issue by agreeing to sign a contract to prevent the incident from happening again. He said that if it did happen again, the students would be expelled. According to the principal, the students volunteered to move to another school next school year.

The director confirmed that the incident took place in mid-July, but the school only found out after the victim's sister posted images and video of the assault to Facebook, saying that her sister refused to go to school for over a month due to the bullies’ threats, while being too scared to report to her family.

He said that the family of the victim has filed a complaint to the authorities, and the authorities are currently investigating the case.
